Boring Day Photo Challenge!

I was making a bunch of fun YouTube videos a few months ago before I started on this 4 month long on-site freelance project. Now that I've transitioned back into a full time work schedule again, its hard to be in interesting scenarios to take photographs. Or so I thought! Granted  I do live in NYC, but I was uninspired as I worked my 10am-7pm job. One day I saw Brandon Li's "Boring Room Challenge" video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8Fo0yL18Pc) and was inspired to make my boring day look dynamic and cinematic.     Always remember that something boring to you could be the most interesting thing to someone else halfway around the world. Take that as inspiration to tell your story, create content, and capture beautiful memories in delicious 4k resolution.

Brooklyn Street Photography

As I started to shoot photos and do some online research, I learned that My Panasonic G85 has a 16MP micro 4/3 sensor. What does that mean?  It means the sensor size is ¼ the size of a full frame DSLR like the Canon 5d IV or a Sony A7.  My camera is a crop sensor camera. To get the actual focal length equivalent angle of view, you have to multiply  the focal length number by 2x. So, a 45mm lens on my camera would equate to a 90mm angle of view. That’s considered a flattering “portrait” lens in the photography world. Sensor size and how it affects your aperture and effective focal length’s angle of view was very interesting information for me to digest.      Anyways, here are some photos I took with my 25mm f0.95 and 45mm f1.8 lenses. The 45mm f1.8 is a very strong lens for street photography because it has a pretty telephoto range (90mm angle of view/aov) and autofocus! My 25mm f0.95 does not have autofocus and its very hard to nail movi...

My camera is a micro 4/3rds camera!?

It’s important to understand foundations before you create art or read about cameras. Please check out my "Intro into photography" post if you don't understand what focal length, aperture, dslr, exposure, fstop, sensor, 4k video, sensor means. Thanks!     Digital photography is one part gear, one part visual, and one part communication. To fully master this craft, you need an understanding of all 3. You can make spontaneous great images without understanding why. But when you are forced into a studio situation or given a specific client goal, it becomes tremendously harder if u don't know what your gear can do. This post is my attempt at giving you guys a background about the type of “DSLR” camera that I am currently shooting with and how does that affects my images.     I’m shooting on a Panasonic g85 which has a Micro 4/3 cropped sensor camera. There are 3 main consumer "DSLR" formats Micro 4/3 cropped sensor cameras, APSC cropped s...

Intro to Photography

Here's an intro to photography to help people who aren't familiar with photography terminology.

Comment on my new photography blog!

Hi there, my name’s Kevin Lu! I’m working primarily as a freelance computer graphics “Lighting and Texturing artist”  in the advertising and film industry. This is the beginning of my new blog to share with you my thoughts, art and photography.     I purchased the Panasonic G85 camera in late February of 2017 with hopes to further my understanding of image-making and to make higher quality you-tube videos. When I was working in Vancouver at Sony Image-works, I was reunited with my coworker/photographer buddy Kyle H. He had originally introduced me to photography and its correlation to my computer graphics career. Mirror-less slr cameras were pretty popular then in 2015. I was inspired and excited to purchase my first camera. Upon doing research, I found that not only would you have to invest in a descent camera body, another kicker to your wallet would be the lenses that needed to be paired to create high quality imagery. The thought of a...
